Intro: I'm Leonard Poole and along with Jim Shirff we're the first citizens of "The Republic of the Free" Our mission is simply to declare TRF territories on the currently sinking Tuvalu islands. Well, one island actually - Asau, but what a mission its been. We started our trip from Darwin, Australia. We're a couple of free thinkers and wanted to claim some land in case we really wanted to live alone as citizens of TRoF. We both currently hold dual citizenship in TRoF and Australia.
Along with Jim's boat we were able to make the trip in less than a day. Here's to the new republic! Because the locals are only allowed to take with them a suitcase per person that leaves us with a lot of new capital. We've got a schoolhouse with English books, at least a dozen small homes, and plenty of small fields to cultivate hemp. We even got an old tube radio to work, but we didn't find any English speakers. Regardless I spent an hour inviting people within receiving distance to join our country.

This little girl we met in Funafuti when we landed actualy spoke pretty good english. I don't think she understood what we were trying to do or what TRoF is. Some other armed locals didn't take to kindly to us. We just told them we were photographers from a fictional newspaper. It seems there has been a lot of looting going on.
March 31, 2002
After a bit of trouble from the Maritime Surveillance we were able to make it to Asau and plant our flag to legitimize our stake on the island. We declare the entire island to belong to the TRoF and renamed it Capitol Island. We need people who can farm, set up wind generators, and schoolteachers first. Water distillery too.
Here's the flag we planted
Well, I guess its official. With everyone evacuating this island its officially ours. Now we just need to get recognized. Please link to site and spread the word about TRoF. Keep an eye out for our Manifesto and Article of Self-Rule coming soon. email us if you want to be a citizen. Its free and its going to be fun.
